2005-07    Neiman-Marcus Limited Edition Pop Up Book

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the store Neiman-Marcus commissioned me to create a pop up book with seven spreads, each one illustrating a different tradition of the store, and they were Fashion, Butterflies, Fortnight, Christmas, His and Hers Gifts, Art Collection, and The Future.  In 2005 I began to make sketches of ideas for the spreads and their animations.  Off and on over the next two years the book was created and it was published in 2007.  This is the only photographic "pop up" book that I am aware that was created from scratch with original, storyboarded photography, not a small feat.  One of the challenges was photographing objects, especially the model posing, from exact opposite sides at the same time to eventually become two sided paper cut outs.  Special features I designed included a hologram clock face where the model blows a kiss.  For every position and every face in the book I photographed the beautiful Ruslana Korshunova, who we later learned, in 2008, had tragically died in Manhattan at the age of 20 years.
